Eating Exercise Calories Back for Maintenance and/or surplus

I’ve looked for this specific Q on a handful of forums but can’t seem to find it answered. Usually when it comes to “eating back exercise” calories, it’s discussed in the context of losing weight and having a deficit.

I’m just about where I want to be in terms of weight loss - never counted or ate back exercise calories - and am looking at next steps.

So my question is, when you’re working on maintenance for a specific weight or for having a caloric surplus for building muscle, do you eat back your exercise calories?

Logically, to me, the answer would be yes.

But Also, I know calories burned at estimates that can’t be counted on. With that in mind, how do you personally work on maintenance and surplus?

As an aside: have any of yall used Lose It for surplus tracking?
