Models Create a Program to Stop Sexual Harassment In the Fashion Industry

One hundred models signed an open letter urging modeling agencies, brands, and media outlets to take part.

At the Copenhagen Fashion Summit in Denmark on Wednesday, 100 models grouped together to announce the Respect program, which aims to end sexual harassment in the fashion industry.

The new program, led by Model Alliance founder Sara Ziff, asks brands, modeling agencies, and media outlets to sign a contract to protect models. With the legally-binding agreement, models can file complaints through a confidential process, protecting them from retaliation and guaranteeing an investigation by an independent source.

The women, all dressed in Balmain, gathered on the red carpet to promote their cause.

This year, the steps at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival has served as a place for protests and dissent. Over the weekend, Cate Blanchett led an 82-women #MeToo protest on the red carpet and just yesterday, 16 black actresses gathered around French actress Aïssa Maïga to make a statement of their own. 

The women—including Nadège Beausson-Diagne, Mata Gabin, Maïmouna Gueye, Eye Haidara, Rachel Khan, Sara Martins, Marie-Philomène Nga, Sabine Pakora, Firmine Richard, Sonia Rolland, Magaajyia Silberfeld, Shirley Souagnon, Assa Sylla, Karidja Touré, and France Zobda, and Aïssa Maïga—all dressed in Balmain, wanted to call attention to their multimedia project “Noire N’est Pas Mon Metier,” which translated means, “Black Is Not My Profession.” The work aims to expose and denounce the discrimination black women face in the French and American entertainment industries.

This DIY Lash Extension Kit Has Ruined Mascara for Me Forever

You always want what you can't have—for me, that's long, curled lashes. I was born with stubbornly straight ones that no mascara or curling tool have been able to boost. I've gotten addicted to extensions, fallen in love with lash lifts, and become an expert at applying strip lashes, so when I was introduced to Lashify, a new DIY lash extension system, I thought I'd seen it all. Turns out, I was wrong.

Lashify is a cross between strip individuals and actual lash extensions.

The application process is totally unique: you use a mascara-like tube of bonding solution just at the root of your lashes, then you tack on the individuals underneath your natural lashes. I repeat, UNDERNEATH. Then, you "fuse" your natural lashes with the faux ones using a tweezer-like tool and you finish off with a sealing solution. It sounds intimidating and, to be honest, it actually was the first time I tried it. By the second time, however, I was able to do both eyes in less than five minutes total. Meanwhile, sometimes it takes me fifteen minutes to apply strip lashes.
