IAMA former caretaker for a morbidly obese man (300+ pounds).

Unsure if this belongs here but I wanted to share because I thought this sub would be interested in a story like this:

When I was 14 my grandfather died and I inherited the job of taking care of my uncle, who at 6'2 weighed well over 300+ pounds during the late stage of his life. His peak weight was around 375 lbs, which was a BMI of 48.1 and roughly 180 lbs overweight, although most of that time his weight fluctuated approx. between 325 - 340 lbs. He spent most of his 50s and 60s in the 300s.

I took care of him until the day he died aged 67 from a heart attack doing everything from helping with personal hygiene to running errands. He was dependent on me for a number of everyday tasks.

I disliked him by the end of it (10 years), and have really regretted those sentiments since he died and feel really bad now when I reflect upon it several years later.

Ask me anything.
