Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.
I am a 33/F teacher and coach (I coach volleyball). I have always been on the slightly heavier side, always on the overweight side of BMI scale. I had some success in my earlier twenties getting down to a normal weight range, but it required two-a-days and extreme dieting. I am 5’7 and 176 pounds.
Over the past year, I’ve gained and lost the same ten pounds. I workout frequently- I lift weights and I enjoy running. I consider myself to be fit, despite what the scale says. Currently I workout 6 days a week with minimal cardio excluding a 6 mile run once a week. Because I’m a teacher, I’m on my feet all the time.
My diet has been 90% clean this entire year. I did keto for a month before going to the beach and only managed to get down to 165. Keto is not sustainable for me because I enjoy lifting weights and find that the lack of glycogen not only negatively affects my lifts, but also affects my motivation to go to the gym. I track my calories stringently and eat between 1600-2000 calories a day. I don’t eat processed food (no rice or bread either) and cook my own meals. I love veggies and meat. I wear mediums in tops and I’m a size 10. My boyfriend is very supportive and we usually go to the gym and workout together. I spot him, he spots me. He is following the wheat belly diet, so he eats clean as well.
What I think is hindering me: 1) I am on birth control pills (generic for orthotrycycline) because I have been in a long term relationship with my boyfriend and we don’t want children now. This is the only pill that has moderated my periods as they have become more irregular as I’ve gotten older. 2) Alcohol. I have one drink with dinner three or four nights a week. I’m planning on cutting this out, but it’s the holiday season and wine is pretty much religion in a teacher’s life.
If you’ve experienced a plateau, what are some things that have helped you break through?
TL;DR: I have been losing and regaining the same ten pounds in one year. Help me break this plateau!
