I just wanted to share something that happened the other day, and I think it highlights a popular myth. I don't expect that many people in /r/loseit believe it, but I thought it might be useful to point it out anyway. I have a couple of coworkers, lets call them Allison and Kate, and they constantly complain about being 'too skinny' and 'not being able to gain weight'. This is particularly annoying because they both know that I'm losing weight and it's a daily struggle, so for someone to just go 'I don't know I guess I've got a high metalbolism', that's really annoying.
So I sat down with Kate and Allison the other day and we talked about what we had to eat the day before and what we eat on a typical day. This is obviously anecdotal, but I just wanted to show you what they eat before you buy into this 'I'm just naturally skinny' idea.
Allison:
Breakfast - Starbucks black coffee
Lunch - Cucumber salad with a light splash of vinaigrette dressing
Dinner - Stuffed peppers
Kate:
Breakfast - Wasn't hungry
Lunch - Chick fil a - Grilled chicken wrap
Mid-afternoon snack - Snickers bar
Dinner - Salmon and a salad
These two who ostensibly 'can't gain weight', are making healthy food choices and don't often indulge, but they rant about how they are super underweight and can't gain. Please don't fall into that 'I'm naturally skinny'/'I'm naturally fat' mentality. No one is born skinny OR fat, you are what you eat and how much you eat.
