more calories burned but same steps amount?

I'm getting straight to the point - I know step counters aren't a 100% accurate and neither are burned calories, but I'm still confused.
On work days, I usually get in 14-15k steps and my app shows me I've burned around 500 cal. I keep my phone in the front pocket of my pants usually and i can't use a smart watch because those measure the movement of the hand and I'm a cashier, so it would be a very wrong number.
In the last two days I kept my phone in a pocket that's at knee height and despite the same amount of steps, it says I burned around 200 cal MORE than normally?

That makes me wonder which measurement is more accurate and why there's such a big difference to begin with (I usually don't take the full burned calories into account generally, more like half of them).
