Thanks guys -- & meal prep!

So! (This is kinda long, tldr on bottom)

Earlier this week I made a post about accidentally going wayyyy over budget with a milkshake and considering fasting/reducing meals to hit numbers. Overwhelmingly, you guys agreed that would have made 1 disregulated day into several. Many also pointed out the cycle of: over eat > compensate and eat little > get hungry > over eat. All of these are logical conclusions I knew, but for some reason it clicked only after my post.

Anyway, I ended up realizing that obsessing over those calories was just having me obsess over food for hours, which was making me "hungry." At the end of the day, while it was just a milkshake, it was actually very filling! I had a small snack at night but otherwise was fine when I stopped guilt tripping myself.

Onto my current endeavors: I live with my parents, who are both overweight and just stock up on whatever. I love my dad's cooking, but his idea of "a tablespoon of butter" is...unreliable. My "dieting" was often picking from leftovers and eating a small amount to hope the numbers were okay. Lots of crash diets, in summary.

For the first time, I meal prepped 2 meals this week! And oh my god it makes life easier. I just had a breaking point and at 7pm one day, I ignored the food in the house, went shopping, and made food. They were both chicken and carb-y dishes with veggies and sauce/seasoning etc, so not the pinnacle of Clean Eating. But they were filling and reliably countable, and certainly miles better than my usual school/work lunch meals. And cracking open a homemade filling nutritious meal at lunchtime at work? Wonderful.

People rave about meal prep all the time and I never understood it. And it's only been a week but MAN I don't get why this isn't as common! Like wow that was pretty good, and then in my fridge there's two other portions just for me! All counted out and ready. It's so convenient.

Plus, with my meals being so predictable, there's a lotttt less stress. So I can still have my treats in moderation literally every day without going hungry to have them. I don't feel hate towards this diet. I'm not focused on macros atm, just getting my feet under me, but this is the first time in my life I've felt somewhat in control of my diet and my relationship with food. Hoping I stick to it! But I have a good feeling, this feels maintainable :)

Just wanted to put some happier optimistic stuff out there, felt like sharing.

TLDR: Made a post, got good advice about not yo-yo dieting. Randomly had a breaking point and cooked for myself (not parents), discovered the magical convenience and relaxation of meal prep. Might be on the first sustainable diet of my life. Thanks all! :)
