I’m 5’8”, 165lbs. Slightly overweight on the BMI scale — which is max 160lbs to be at a “normal” weight. Realistically, I’d like to be around 155lbs-150lbs.
My long term goal is to build muscle. I want to eventually start going to the gym, but it is not really efficient to build muscle in a caloric deficit. Instead, I am thinking to use the time that I would spend at the gym 3 times a week (about an hour and a half — one hour at the gym, ~30 mins total commuting), and spend that walking instead.
If I do that, that would be an extra 4.5 hours every week walking, which would help with maintaining the caloric deficit. I also already do yoga 3x a week currently.
Would it be smarter to prioritize walking 3x a week until I lose about 10-15lbs, or should I just start going to the gym now?
