Older ladies who are successfully losing weight - how did you find your target daily calories? I’m a 62 female, 5’7” and 230 pounds and am having trouble figuring out what my target daily calories should be. I had a total thyroidectomy years ago which I feel has made things more difficult for me, and menopause has certainly not helped. I went to see a dietician and she suggested 1,800 calories a day, which seemed high. She also advocates a lot of lean protein which I can’t have due to kidney function. The LoseIt app suggests 1,369, and Cronometer suggests 1,077. Of course, I can just wait and see what works, but I also don’t want to eat too little. I feel like 1,077 is quite low for my height. Which source do you trust? Is eating too few calories a problem as long as you make mostly healthy choices?
I’m also looking for some type of muscle building exercise that I won’t detest. Going to a gym or lifting weights at home really bores me. Most workout videos are rather dull too. Are there some fun workout videos that employ simple, muscle-building exercises that you can do at home with little or no equipment? I have a set of small free weights. I think a humorous video series would be so much more fun than the usual thing. Picture Melissa McCarthy’s character from The Heat leading a video, swearing up a storm, sweating and complaining while cracking jokes. I would so much love something like that but don’t even know where to start looking. Any searches I do for funny exercise videos do not product what I’m seeking. At this point, I’d settle for small dumbbell exercise videos with decent music, but I guess licensing actual popular music costs money. I could just listen to my own music but I do need to hear the instructor for tips on form, etc. I really hate most exercise because I find it boring. I get cardio by playing tennis and brisk walks. My knees will not tolerate most pilates exercises. I just need something fun that will work my muscles. Any good YouTube series out there you can recommend?
