"The Hacker's Diet" isn't a diet. It's a systemic explanation of how the body and calorie deficits work, but it was written by a hacker (innocent 1970s term for a computer programmer) as a labor of love. It has been free and it's currently still up on John's site: https://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/ but, as John has recently passed away, it may not be up for long.

Several of us have had our weight-loss efforts helped and informed by John's entertaining and wonky work and his excellent yet simple illustrations.
The future of this and John's other works are up to his heirs, whom I don't know. His personal site which hosts this stuff may be up for a while or down in short order once the bills stop being paid. But the price was free and it's still there now, so download your personal copy of this free work (don't merely bookmark to a site that will soon be dead).
And to John in the cosmos -- thanks, buddy. A few of us winners at losing owe you our thanks. You gave this to us for free, as in "free beer," and we love you for it.
