I guess I exercise for a bunch of reasons.
But the honest truth is that I exercise because I remember watching my mom in her 30s going to her weekly workout class with her friends. And without her knowing, that internalized in me that exercising is a normal, responsible thing to do.
She wasn’t a fitness buff. She didn’t like doing it. She was annoyed about it most of the time. And ultimately, her weekly fitness class didn’t make her drop 50kgs and turn her into a new person. She was and is still slightly fluffy.
But growing up watching her do that semi regularly for a few years during my impressionable years instilled in me that exercise doesn’t have to be this some big, intense, transformational thing at the top of Mt Everest. It could just be a chill weekly gals class where you move and gossip about neighborhood drama.
I guess the reason I’m posting this is to share a silver lining to those that feel that they’re not exercising or losing enough. People notice your effort and you could be passing down some valuable lessons to future generations so they may not have to struggle so much with just the inherit motivation to exercise.
And this is also a thank you note to my mama who I still see at times pacing around the house doing little arm circles and random lunges in the hallway.
