How to tell friends I don’t want to eat out as much

I’m 17 years old and have always been the largest of my friends. I’m 5’7, weigh around 210 pounds, and very recently decided to really try and change my lifestyle so I can lose weight and get in shape. However, I’ve run into a problem- my friends always want to eat at restaurants. I understand this isn’t inherently bad, but i have multiple different friends who want to go to different restaurants throughout the week. I have poor self control and know that if I go to olive garden, a fried chicken place, and a fast food place all in the same week I won’t be able to always choose the ‘healthiest’ item on the menu and will end up binging on fast food.

I’m too embarrassed to tell my friends I’m trying to lose weight. All of my friends are skinny and I would feel so ashamed if I told them that the reason I don’t want to eat with them is because I know I’ll gain weight if I do so.

How do I tell my friends I don’t want to eat out with them or suggest a healthy alternative without having to explain myself? Or, how can I explain myself?
