Anyone else find it easier to eat less and lose weight in college than at home?

There’s plenty of food and free junk food all over my college campus, but I’ve personally found it a lot easier to avoid these through a mix of self-control, being occupied with classes and other work, and simply the fact that the dining hall food is pretty subpar, so there’s nothing to crave. On the other hand, I recently went home for Thanksgiving and remembered why it’s so easy for me to gain weight at home. My family buys tons of junk food and snacks, which are always readily available in the fridge or cupboards. I’m also not sure if this is a cultural thing as my parents are immigrants, but you know those memes where your grandma or whoever will go nuts if you don’t finish everything on your plate and absolutely stuff yourself with food until you’re really full? That’s my parents. Obviously I appreciate that they care about me enough to do all that for me, but now that I’m in college away from that lifestyle for the second year now, it’s finally dawning on me why it’s always so difficult to lose weight and try to eat within a reasonable budget at home.

I guess now my question is, with all this in mind, how do I stick to my budget at home? It’s not like I can just refuse the food my parents give me, and if I do they’ll suspect something. I also don’t really want them to know that I’m trying to eat less or lose weight because we’ve had issues with that in the past. I don’t know what to do, and I’m worried that any weight I lose during the school year will be gained right back every time I go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
