Advice I have after losing 100 lbs. Some of it is going to be very unpopular here:

Popular advice that helped me a lot:

1) Find an exercise routine you enjoy doing and make it your hobby. You have to find something you love because working out is supposed to be fun. When I was 300 lbs, I tried lifting weights and I didn't like it. I then tried the elliptical machine, but it was so boring that I could barely do 15 minutes on it.

I was about to quit the gym after 2 weeks, but they randomly got this punching bag in there. I hit it on the way to the bathroom, and it felt good. It was the most stress relieving feeling in the world, and all that pain I had in my body was released with simple punches. I would go in 5-6 days a week and hit the bag for an hour. I would look forward to it, and I fell in love with other boxing related exercises. That punching bag saved my health.

I had a friend who joined Zumba, and I thought it was ridiculous but she lost 30 lbs from it and loves going. She knows all the dance steps. You have to find what you love because that's the best way to enjoy working out. If it wasn't for that bag, I would still be 300 lbs.

2) I didn't realize how much I was overeating until I started portion control. It's so easy to accidently eat an extra 1000 calories you don't need. Being aware of the food I was putting into my body also helped me manage it.

Unpopular advice:

1) This will get my soul crucified, but I think there's more to weight loss than CICO. I have a friend who is on several psych meds for anxiety, depression and ADHD. She doesn't really eat that much, but she's well over 250 lbs. I really believe those meds slowed her metabolism a lot.

I used to drink straight vodka that has little calories in it, but that too made me blow up like a balloon. I think the alcohol did something very harmful to my metabolism.

I quit sucralose (fake sugar) and switched to straight black coffee. I lost 20 lbs the first two months from making that one change.

All I'm saying is if you're doing everything right, and still not losing weight, there may be other variables involved other than diet and exercise.

2) Not all fast food is bad. Empty calories like soda and fries are bad, but a double cheese burger actually has a lot of calcium, protein, iron and good things in it.

Anyways that's what helped me is these four things. Maybe it'll help you.
