"Plateau-ing" and what I've learned

**Disclaimer** I know that plateaus are a thing, and that many of us will go through them at some point in our journey, but what I am discussing below is what I would consider a fake plateau.

Hi all,

It's been about 8 months since I started following this subreddit, and 8 months since I decided to make some changes to the way I'm living. I have lost 30 lbs and I am feeling great!

I wanted to post something I've been grappling with this month. At the end of February I weighed 188 lbs. Today, I weigh 188 lbs. My brain immediately went to "I must be plateau-ing". But then I thought a little bit more about it. Last weekend our longtime friends were visiting us for the weekend and we hit it hard (here, "it" is both unhealthy food and a LOT of booze). The weekend before I visited home for the first time since Christmas and saw some family I haven't seen since my wedding 1.5 years ago. See above levels of food/booze.

After thinking it over, I am not "plateau-ing". I haven't been losing weight because I decided to let loose and not track my eating. It was important for me to realize that, because a "plateau" seems like a problem that's out of my control. But this was completely under my control. And the scale staying even also means I maintained this month, and I think that's good practice for the future. Life will always throw curve balls at you, and it's nice to know that I have the tools to recover from a few bad weekends.

Here's to a new week and a new chance to practice healthy habits this weekend!
