Social hiking invitations making me anxious. Do I just go? Or give myself time to get into better shape and feel more comfortable?

My husband and I have been getting to know a really nice couple. They’ve started inviting us on hikes now that the weather is starting to clear up a little bit. I’m very interested in going but I’m nervous because I’ve been going to the gym for a couple of months but I’m not sure how I would do fitness wise on a hike. I feel a little embarrassed and don’t want to be super winded or feel like I’m holding them back because I’m not in the shape that they are. I do want to get to a place where we can enjoy hikes with them but I’m just nervous about them. Should I just suck it up and go? Or tell them that I would like to work out a little longer to feel more physically ready? Any advice?
