New here, and I’m on week 5!

Hi y’all!

I’m a woman in her upper 30s. I am 5’2”. Back in my athletic days I weighed 115 pounds and like most young women, I felt like I was grossly overweight! Oh to be 20 again, ha.

I married at 21, and it’s been downhill from there. ;) I slowly began to add on the pounds - a desk job, nights spent drinking and clubbing followed by a drunken 3am meal add up. Weight crept up into the 140s. I did quit smoking (and obviously the drinking and clubbing) when I discovered I was expecting at age 24.

I gained an average amount of weight during the pregnancy (~20lbs), and lost some but not all of the baby weight. I almost completely stopped the binge drinking (with rare exception - I became quite the homebody), but was less active, so I slowly added a bit more weight. 2.5 years later I weighed 160lbs, and got pregnant with kiddo #2, gained about 35 pounds with the pregnancy (had some bed rest due to a complication), then nursed for over a year. Lost maybe 8-10 pounds, which crept back on over the years, and then some.

In July my doc discovered I had a good size mass in my abdomen. I went through a bit of a mini-depression as I really didn’t want to have the operation and go through recovery (I’ve had two c-sections and two laparoscopic surgeries in my history).

We proceeded with surgery (including hysterectomy) in early August. On surgery day I weighed in at 206 pounds, which is crazy! Surgery overall was successful but there were some fairly minor complications (and tumor was benign).

During recovery, it really hit home how my being overweight likely contributed to the situation, and made the recovery much more difficult. Plus, the realization hit that my daughter is slightly taller than me, and weighs a mere 108 pounds helped! That’s almost half of me!!

Anyway, after eating well the first couple of weeks after surgery (partially due to a decreased appetite), I noted I was down a few pounds, nearing 200lbs! I hadn’t been under 200lbs in years (I’d been maintaining weight between 202-208 for ages).

I started tracking my food using the Fit Day app. I have a fairly physical job (lots of walking and some lifting), which I’m back to working as of last week now that I’m mostly recovered.

I plan to join the YMCA where my kids swim and dive in the coming weeks, once I’m physically back closer to 100%.

Anyway, 23 days into tracking and I’m down to 196 pounds. :) I am happy with the slow and steady pace, with the goal of being into he healthy weight category by my 40th birthday.

So far it’s been pretty easy to stay motivated - I hope that sticks around. Not wanting to go through medical crap anymore helps a ton right now. I just like to imagine how great I’ll feel as I keep losing!
