Pre-Gaming the weight loss program

About a week and a half ago something in my head clicked and it became clear that my weight situation is out of hand. I'm not sure what made me get to that point, a perfect storm of a lot of factors.

  • Photos of me make me look like a stuffed sausage
  • I'm 18 months out from the age my mother was when she died (she was not in good health)
  • I have a lot of beautiful clothes that are in good shape that no longer fit and I want to wear them again.
  • My kitchen is being renovated this summer and I'll have a stove that works all the way.
  • A couple of my office mates--who are older than me--have been losing weight pretty steadily for the last year or so.

Since the kitchen is out of commission and doing dishes in the bathroom sink is a pain in the ass (and gross in my opinion) we have been grilling as much as possible and eating out a lot. Lunch is especially frustrating.

Despite this, I decided to start tracking calories about a week and a half ago. I decided to take this time to figure out a good tracking app, find some good resources and get in the habit. Since I'm not doing my own cooking much, it's hard to get accurate calorie counts.

Still, it looked like I was regularly consuming 2000 and change in a day. Looking at the logs, that included a lot of sweets and treats, so I decided to set my goal at 1500. That was not doable-I was starving! So I set it at 1800 but seem to be averaging closer to 1700. Again, I'm not putting a lot of stock in these numbers because it's so hard to guess on a lot of the things I'm eating. Also, I'm not logging any fruit I eat because there is so much glorious fruit in the store right now--I'm going to eat it all!

Also, while this looks like a CICO plan, but right now it's just CI. I'll pull in the CO part in the Fall.

Well, this afternoon I ordered an activity tracker, mostly to get an idea of my activity in a normal day/week so that I can plan for the Fall and Winter (I live in a very cold climate.)

I haven't noticed any change in my weight or rather, in the way my clothes fit because I don't really care about the number on the scale (I don't even have a scale!) but I have to say, I feel better and I feel in control. And I enjoy my food a little more. On Friday we went out and I had several drinks and a tasty meal at a restaurant. My day's calories were well above 1800, but I still felt good about it since it evens out over several days.

I'm excited for this new kitchen of mine, and really excited to wear my beautiful skirts!
