I'm 35, 6'3" and probably about 400lbs. For the last 5 weeks, I've been tracking what I eat. NSV

Link to chart of last month here. I don't have a scale. Sort of scared what I'll find out. My diet was quite bad. Too much beer. Too many high calorie foods. I stopped cooking with butter and oils. Stopped eating white bread and pizza and dough and all that high carb no fiber stuff. Stopped eating red meat. Haven't touched cheese in over a month. And it's not really bothering me any more. I've settled into a routine that goes like this:

Breakfast
- Coffee, 0.2oz of 1% milk
- Occasionally a half cup of high protein cereal if I'm hungry
- Sunday breakfast is different. Includes 1/3 of a naval orange, 1.5 servings of canadian bacon, and roasted brussels sprouts.

Lunch
- Turkey sandwich with iceberg lettuce and yellow mustard (high fiber wheat bread toasted and 2 slices of low sodium turkey)
- A pickle spear
- Side dish varies, sometimes 8 strawberries, sometimes 5 kiwi slices, occasionally 15 terra chips, other times other fruits.

Dinner
- Always some form of chicken or turkey, usually a pretty big quantity. Could be a half pound if it's just grilled chicken breast skinless.
- Always a good chunk of vegetables, all different types so long as their green
- Occasionally relatively smaller quantities of whole grains like barley, brown rice, etc (200 calories max)
- Occasionally some kind of bread (a whole wheat sandwich thin for turkey burger, sometimes a potato roll for chicken sandwiches, flax and oat tortillas for burritos)
- Using very minimal cooking spray or oil maybe 1 or 2 days per week only. Otherwise grilling more and cooking more with low sodium chicken broth (5 calories per serving). Using fresh peppers and garlic and things more for flavor than salty sauces or high calorie, which are gone.

An extra half cup of cereal or packet of plain oatmeal with a chopped up date in it has been the go to in between snack.

Finally, I haven't touched beer in 5 weeks. I still have had some drinks, but no beer. I had a couple gin and diet tonics. I had some of those spiked seltzer cans. I had a bit of straight whiskey. My worst week I had alcohol 2 days out of 7. My best week was 0. 1 has been typical. If we go out to cookouts or meet people, that's the day it'll happen. I bring something lean like chicken kabobs to give me appropriate food so I'm not eating hot dogs and junk, and bring along some lower calorie booze options so I'm not teetotaling, but I'm trying to keep it in reason. I shudder a bit now to think of how many calories I might have consumed drinking heavy IPAs (and more of them) while eating hot dogs and hamburgers and chips and potato salad or something before (as might have been typical). It could easily have been 4k calories on one of those days, (2k in food and 2k in beer) and probably was.

So anyways, my wife knows I'm doing this obviously, but I haven't told anyone else. I just keep it like this is what I'm into lately, and nobody bats an eye. My poor wife is probably 5'9" and 125lbs or something. I was probably 230lbs or so when I started seeing her when we were teenagers, and I've just slowly put on about a pound per month or so since then. She has not though. She doesn't really have to eat like this. She's being a great sport and playing along with the meal plan, although she does go out and get herself extra food for lunches and desserts and stuff. I'll even go out to the ice cream parlor with her and just get a water and sit down. It's not really a big deal.

Anyways, I don't really notice a lot of differences people say they do, to be honest. I don't have more energy. I don't look really any different to myself in the mirror.

That being said, my damned pants don't fit any more. They literally just fall straight down. There's probably 2 inches or so more fabric than there needs to be. And I had to make new holes in my belt. I threw on my giant insulated 5x coat that fit me kind of snug last winter just to see what it was like, and it's a size too big now too. So I know something's happening.

The other side effect has been money. My total food/booze budget is probably down to $90 or so per week, which is much less than it had been. Hell, we'd go out to the bar to play pool and we'd get nachos and beers and rack up a $90 bill in a night sometimes before. So the bank account appreciates the change too, I'm sure.

Anyways, the whole thing's kind of embarrassing, and I'm sort of doing it my own way, but I'm doing it. I also have better and worse days. I've had days a bit over 2k calories. I've had days under 1k. I figure it balances out on average somewhere between 1200 and 1500. But it's certainly a monumental improvement over what I was doing. I figure if I just stick to it, by the time I see family at Christmas, maybe it will be a lot more noticeable.

Thanks for reading.
