My favorite motivational speech for weight loss is Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday. I regularly come back to it to remind myself of the importance of small good choices.
"Life's this game of inches. So is football. Because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too early or too late and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow or too fast and you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. In every break of the game. Every minute, every second. On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know, when we add up all those inches, that's going to make the fucking difference between winning and losing. Between living and dying."
If you really look around, there are dozens or hunsreds of chances to make healthier decisions in a day. Take the stairs or elevator. 2 creams and 2 sugars or one cream. Diet coke or regular coke. 1 scoop or 2.
Each choice may only save 5-50 or maybe 100 calories. But if you make more than not, consistently, they will add up. A couple small good choices for a year could amount to pounds of weight loss and measureable health improvements.
Keep fighting for those inches!
