I have been working on losing weight for the last eight months (137kg down to 111kg so far) but have avoided replacing my wardrobe yet. My wife finally told me my trousers were looking ridiculous so I gave in.
Now, I have been gradually gaining weight since about 1998 but I hit a 44” waist sometime around 2004 and have been squeezing into them ever since - like really squeezing in at my hips under the belly fat - and in some level of denial. Up till now I’ve felt good that the 44” Chinos fit comfortably (actually loosely) around my fattest part but I didn’t really believe that I had actually gone down a size yet.
So I walk into the shop yesterday and experienced the same anxiety and sinking feeling - the largest size they had was 40” waist. However, I thought I would try them on and they fit! I mean they felt smug compared to the baggy things I’ve been schleping around in since Christmas but actually fit. The experience of finding a pair of trousers, trying them on, them fitting, and walking out and buying them was amazing. The fact that a 40” waist fit was wonderful - I haven’t been 40” since 2001 I reckon. It’s spurred me on to keep going. 38” next!
