It's mean, it's frustrating, its terrifying and it just all around made/makes you feel awful. I am sure many of us can relate. For me my youth was packed full of people singling me out because I was the fat kid at school. Pushed around the coat room, food thrown at, insults and so much more. It was not a great time in my life.
But you know what? Everything I went through helped shaped me into who I am today. All events in life lead us onto the path we find ourselves on right now. Are all events positive and happy? No chance. But they still mould us and build us up.
How about a plateau? You know those couple weeks where that pesky scale just will not budge? The similarities are right there in front of our faces everyday when the scale reads the same number. We want to give up. We want to retaliate (eat eat and eat!). We just want to get away from it all and hope for the best. But what would that accomplish? Where would we find ourselves if every time the scale did not budge we panicked and ran?
It's a bit of a though provoking comparison but the main point I am getting at here is that plateaus happen. Trust me as much as you think your plateau is the ABSOLUTE WORST OF ALL MAN KIND (Source at least 4 threads every day on r/loseit) it is just as horrible and discouraging as every single one I have had and everyone else here. We all know how it feels.
But don't give up. Don't give in. Weight loss is not a linear straight down process. At best we can expect a roller coaster type line though for many we get changes like the Bay of Fundy (shout out to my Canadians). We have to roll with the swings and embraces the wooshes. Sadly we can not lose weight every single day or every week. I have twice had plateaus last nearly FIVE weeks. 5 weeks of 1300 calorie deficit days.... no budge. I stuck it out. I trusted in the process that got me to that point and you know what happened?
It broke. I wooshed and all was good once again. Next time you are stuck in a plateau take a deep breath and remember all the good work you have done to get to where you are already. Trust in what you're doing and most importantly KEEP GOING. No matter how mean, how nasty or how much that plateau wants to push you around keep going. You're hard work and persistence will pay off. Make that plateau regret bullying you for weeks on end. You're better than that plateau. You are strong.
