Do you focus on weight training, cardio or both?

Just curious what you guys are focussing on?

Im male, middle aged and went from 215 ish lbs to 180lbs through calorie counting. My target weight is 154.

I started in the gym about a month ago and initially did 3 sessions a week of pure weight training. Initially i gained a lot of weight while weight training (back up to 185!) , which i guess was water as it is back off now.

Last week i switched to 4 sessions a week, 2 of weights (whole body workouts at 90 minutes) and 2 days where i do an hour jogging on the treadmill.

I think the cardio will be good for me in terms of heart health, but im aware the calories burned each jogging session (about 650 calories) are not a lot and that my weight training will be sub optimal from only 2 sessions a week.

I am starting to get the exercise bug and actually considering adding an hour in the pool to make it 2 cardio and 2 weight training and one swim a week.

How do you all balance it? Do you focus mostly on weight training? Do you find cardio negatively impacts your weight training gains?

Thanks.
