1500 calories at 302 lbs. — is this too low if I feel totally fine?

Hey y’all,

I started my journey in May at 312 lbs. I’m currently sitting at 302 lbs., 5'11", 24 years old, and I'm male. I'm trying to lose around 130 lbs to get to GW.

Right now I’m eating about 1500 calories a day and doing light cardio 5 times a week. I know that sounds like a steep deficit (my maintenance is probably around 2900–3100), but honestly… I feel totally fine. Like, no brain fog, no low energy, no insane hunger, and I’m making sure I get enough protein and micronutrients.

But I keep seeing people say that 1500 is “too low” or “unsustainable,” and it’s making me second-guess myself a little. I’m not starving, I’m not dragging through the day — I’m actually feeling good. Much better than how I was feeling pre-diet.

I weigh myself daily and go off of weekly averages, Still seeing consistent week-to-week losses.

So I’m just wondering:

  • Is 1500 actually too low for someone my size if I feel good?
  • Has anyone else done something similar and kept it up long-term?
  • Anything I should keep an eye on to avoid burnout or metabolic issues?

Appreciate any advice or experience. Just trying to do this the smart way without psyching myself out. Thanks in advance 🙏
