I don’t know where to start.

hi everyone! over the past 2 years i have gained a solid 20lbs (165lbs - 185lbs, 5’2F) and i am trying to drop down to my original weight, maybe even lower. I have trouble sticking to diets because i get bored of eating the same foods and end up resorting to eating my junk comfort foods. i also have pretty bad self control and i eat whatever is in my sight when i have nothing better to do. and i like to snack. i try to go to the gym but i have no idea what to do when i go there. i want to try to lose the 20lbs by april as i have an upcoming beach trip and i dont want to feel insecure in a bathing suit, but i dont know really what to do exercise-wise, not sure what foods are appropriate to eat, and im just having trouble getting started. is my goal even realistic? please give me some tips, im determined to get this weight off me!!
