I recently started working out to fight off prediabetes and anxiety and loose at least 10-15 pounds. But I’ve noticed that immediately after my workouts, especially when they’re intense, I feel slightly off balance and anxious. Today at the gym, I hit the treadmill hard for about an hour, and as soon as I got off, it literally felt like I was floating or walking on air. My body felt light. I’m very prone to anxiety so feeling this way caused me to panic a little.
I wanted to keep working out, but I felt too anxious (like I might pass out or lose my mind) so I decided to go home. This has been happening every single time I exercise. As soon as I stop, I feel mentally off and on edge. It’s not low blood sugar because I’ve had it checked, and I also made sure to eat before my workout. I usually have some bananas, yogurt, bread, water and peanuts about an hour before. I make sure to stay very hydrated too.
Honestly, it’s enough of a problem to make me not want to work out again. I really hate the feeling of anxiety, and I try to do everything I can to minimize it. It is the entire reason I’m putting myself through the gym. I work out in the afternoons. Maybe I should switch to the mornings and see if that changes anything?
Is it normal or expected to feel this way when someone previously very sedentary starts hitting the gym?
