Started intermittent fasting and finally feel like I’ve found something I can sustain

In the last year and a half, I’ve gained weight bringing me to my highest weight ever, 245lbs (I’m 30F). I was in a long-term toxic relationship and was not in a good place mentally. Relationship ended back in January and I’ve spent the succeeding months working on my mental health, going to therapy, building confidence dating, etc. The only thing that I was still really unhappy with was my weight. I’d try to start diets, restricting carbs (my downfall), counting calories, but was never able to stick with anything for more than a few days. I’ve found that I have a need for instant gratification which is something I’m working on.

I kept hearing about intermittent fasting but never really considered it since I’ve always felt the need to eat breakfast shortly after waking up. I’d often wake up with my stomach already growling. I also have reactive hypoglycemia so I didn’t think it would be possible for me to skip breakfast without having a low blood sugar episode before lunch.

Then about a month ago, and I’m not sure what gave me the motivation, I decided on a whim to try it using the 16:8 timing. I found that if I just wake up and have water and some black coffee, once I push through the first couple of hours of the day, I’m pretty okay until lunch.

Much to my surprise- I’ve had no hypoglycemic episodes in the morning! Better yet- I’ve lost about 13 pounds since starting a month ago! I love that I’ve found this because I’m naturally cutting a lot of calories by skipping breakfast (during covid my “go to” breakfast was a large bagel with cream cheese from the local bagel shop. I felt like I couldn’t go without it). Now, I don’t need to worry SO much about what I’m eating. I’ve naturally started being way more aware of what I’m eating and portion sizes- something that I’ve always struggled with. I find myself automatically eating less carbs because I want to keep these results going, but I do eat some, so I don’t feel deprived.

Has anyone else had a lot of success with this long-term? Any suggestions or tips on how to do it in the most effective way?
