Hello. first time poster! This maybe a bit long
As you can see in the title, I am seeking advice on how to help guide my boyfriend taking accountability of his health and bringing his weight to a healthy weight.
I understand that the most important thing that needs to happen is that he needs to make that decision on his own. However he does have his times when he wants to genuinely get better and this is when I do my best to be supportive.
Unfortunately it usually ends up in a flop because he is very lazy (hes aware of that) and many people around him enable his behavior in regards to pushing him to drink more or eat more food he shouldnt be eating. This is very difficult since we live in opposite sides of the city and I see him once a week.
Here are three common things that I find myself revisiting whenever the topic comes up with my boyfriend:
-Ive sat down with him and had a serious conversations on his weight, how he feels about it, his eating patterns. what he thinks about losing weight. Pretty much just understanding why he thinks the way he does and giving him a place to talk about this. He knows its a problem but he doesnt understand how bad the consquences of being obese is. At this point I felt like I been too nice and I should just scare him with the facts and be blunt.
-Occassionally I do workout with him. Its an occasion because he doesnt prefer/intimidated of my workouts whenever I invite him and he rather rest on the weekends from a hard week of work. Even as his girlfriend he feels extremely insecure to workout with me so this can get in the way too. I took the intiative to do whatever he wants to do which is jogging or running. He actually enjoys it but the motivation to move isnt there.
-Food is a hard one of course. I remind him and guide him to eat whole foods instead of junk foods which is getting better but he has his moments. A part of me knows an appropriate diet will help him but the same time I already know it will not work especially tracking. I feel a food planner seems appropriate just so he can see what hes eating on paper.
I would like to know if theres something that Im doing enough or not doing at all or maybe im doing something wrong? I am here for afterall so i would also like to see if im at fault anywhere. I didnt want to make this post too big so if you have any questions please ask. thank you!
