Help, please.
I’ve had a stressful week, which is really just the continuation of a stressful year where I was dealing with tons of medical problems and misdiagnoses.
This week my father in law had a stroke while he was traveling and wasn’t found for a while after the stroke. We’re damn lucky he is alive but the stroke happened five days ago and my week has been chaotic. My husband left to be with his dad and help get legal and medical things in order, which is good since my husband is smart, organized, and an attorney. So a good candidate for this job.
I’m by myself, which I already know is a trigger for bad eating habits. When I’m with my husband, I don’t eat junk. When he’s not home? My diet goes to shit because reasons? I haven’t successfully psychoanalyzed myself on that one. To summarize, I’m lonely and a bit sad and hubby isn’t here to motivate me to cook healthy.
Stress abounds for obvious reasons and it’s a well known trigger for over eating and unhealthy food choices for me. Eating makes me feel good short term and my stupid brain is really craving that stupid dopamine fix that starchy carbs and sugar gives me.
How do you guys comfort yourselves when your worried, stressed, and or lonely? I know I need to start doing cognitive behavioral therapy again after the shit year I’ve had, but I’m interested in hearing any ideas for short term comfort when my lizard brain is telling me to eat salt, fat, and sugar to feel better instantly.
