I'm a girl, 21, 170cm and 60.6 kg currently. I go to the gym 5 days a week (4 weights, 1 cardio).
Alright so I gave my trainer my height, weight and age yesterday because he said he can calculate my bmr and today he tells me that my basal metabolism is 837 calories and the number of calories I burn with exercise is 1297. That I literally have the bmr of a two month old baby.
This is the formula he used, he said he got it from a medical book or something and that if I went to the doctor they'd tell me the same thing. I'm guessing BM is basal metabolism, I don't know what AM means.
So I asked if I needed to eat 800 calories (with exercise) daily if I wanted to lose one kilogram of fat in two weeks and he tells me that, firstly, only athletes can lose .5 kg a week, and secondly that I'm wrong, that one kilogram of fat is actually 9000 calories and not the 7000 I'd previously thought. He looked at me as if I'm stupid. Then he tells me everything I thought I knew is fiction, that the things I read on the internet are ridiculous. I just stared at him blankly and it literally took everything in me not to start bawling my eyes out. Surely I'm not a professional like him, but everything I learned so far is from subs like these and articles I read, just like many others who are trying to get fit. Shouldn't that be enough to serve as a basic guide?
Anyway, is this true? Is my bmr really that low? I thought that my bmr was at least 1200, so I'm currently eating 1200 calories a day because I wanted to lose some weight, but turns out 1200 is my tdee. I can't wrap my head around this. I'm freaking out and about to lose my mind. I don't know what to think anymore, I'm just really sad. How can this be?
