I struggle with finding motivation to take care of myself. I struggle with self love. Always have, but I still want that to change, and I keep restarting. Being successful for a time period, then I slowly put my self-care priorities further down on my list. When I do restart I focus on the fact that I haven't ultimately haven't given up, and that it is still a celebration that I make an effort to get back up.
10 years ago my highest weight was 227. I lost 52 pounds and got to 175. I felt great. But then slowly gained about 10 lb a year (give or take).
When I got pregnant 4 years ago I was at 243. Only gained 7 lb the whole pregnancy because I just stayed conscious of what I was putting into my body. I didn't eat perfectly, but I still made an effort to be aware.
Beginning of March this year I talked to my mom. My sister's wedding is in October. Let's be accountability buddies to help motivate. She was for it too. However her concept of healthy isn't aligned with mine. Her perspective is, eat McDonald's almost every day, but don't eat all the bread. lt comes with. Often coming over with a large slushie drink 2-3 times a week. Don't track or be conscious of what you're eating. However still celebrate that she didn't eat all 3 of the fried crisp meat burritos, only 2 ( and the tater tots, and the soda, and the candy she ate earlier, and half the doughnut).
I get cutting down and eliminating foods as you go. Cold Turkey doesn't have to be for everyone. I'm eliminating things to more and more as I go. I still have a cup of soda a couple times a week or so.
However, she's getting dismissive how I'm losing weight, and she's still fluctuating between the same 2-3 lb. And as her accountability buddy, how would I help to motivate her? Help to point out that more changes are needed, without it seeming like because I have lost some weight, that I know better than her, or that I am better than her. That is not my intention.
So to not lose my motivation, and to not feel like I'm rubbing it in someone's face, I wanted to share here.
Yes I'm not perfect with my diet. Yes it took me 37 days to lose 5 lb. But I lost the 5 lb. Yay me.
