Today one of my friends who I hadn't seen for a while was shocked that I had lost so much body fat. I have lost roughly around 30 lbs. Just wanted to share my story.
I started more than a year ago. My clothes were getting tighter and I had trouble breathing. I had no doubt that my health was getting worse. I was around 109 kgs. I had no time for gym, doing two jobs at a time, cooking my own food but eating fast food during work lunches. I had to do something.
I started simply by eating healthy home cooked meals. I didn't worry about calorie counting or burning calories. I was still lazy and wasn't seeing my weight getting lower. Then one day I looked at myself in the mirror. I realized I wasn't who i wanted to be.
Small habits make a big change. I started to add small healthy habits to my life. I started by eating low calorie breakfast for a week. Then I switched my snacks to nuts and dry fruits the next. Slowly, I switched my lunch to hearty salads, and dinners to stirfry vegetables and eggs or chicken. It took me around 6 months to build these good habits. These are permanent lifestyle changes for me. I began to sleep well, and increased my activity levels. Please understand that I failed many times, and wanted to give into my cravings many times. But I simply told myself, "I am just controlling myself today. I'll decide tomorrow if I want to eat that burger." The mentioned mental attitude helped me a lot with my cravings.
And then suddenly I began to drop my weight. It was slow. Pound by pound, kilo by kilo. I kept short term goals. 5 lbs at a time and then go into maintenance mode for a week. Now I need smaller size clothes and feel much healthier all the time. I have 30 lbs more to go.
Just wanted to share my story with everyone out there. In simple words, what worked for me was focusing on small habits and short term targets for the long term goal. It's not easy to lose 30 lbs. But it's easy to lose 5 lbs. This sub helped me a lot. I would browse this sub whenever I was demotivated, or whenever I had given into my cravings. It reminded me what my goal was and I could began my journey every-time I failed. There is some good advice here.
Thank you for reading this. I'll post again once I reach my goal weight. Good luck to everyone else!
