In 2017 I finally found the right balance of diet and exercise and went from my heaviest (225lbs) down to 195lbs. My goal is 180lbs. I'm female and 5'5", so it's still a little over the recommended weight but it's where I feel the most comfortable. I have an autoimmune disease as well as a connective tissue disorder that wreaks havoc on my joints. In January I was put on a high dose of prednisone, which is super effective, but has wicked side effects, including weight gain. With the flare and severe damage to my left shoulder and right hip, I haven't been to the gym since the first week of February. I can barely walk around the block without getting winded. Last I checked I'm back up to 215lbs and I'm beyond devastated. All that work for nothing.
The good news is I'm tapering off of the prednisone, not completely, but to a low enough dose that I shouldn't have the side effects anymore. Some of the weight is water weight but not all of it. I'm in physical therapy, but chances are my shoulder and hip won't fully recover. Due to my illnesses I'm on a mostly plant based, gluten free diet. I can't eat much at a time so I snack through the day. I think I'm just looking for a little encouragement. How do you stay motivated after a set back? Also does anyone know of a place to find good, low impact exercises? I've gotten a few from my physical therapist but I want to get a solid, varied routine set up soon. I'm also going to make it a goal to post in here to keep myself accountable. I don't want to lose motivation from getting frustrated over something I couldn't help. Thank you everyone!
