Muscle gain for increased calories burned in resting or exercising

I heard that putting on some muscle would help with this, and if this is true, any tips on how to build some? / The reason I ask this in the first place is that my school health visitor told me that my calories burned has changed now as I am stuck at a weigh plateau. / But back to the muscle gain.. I once did 250 squats in one go, but pushups I can only do 1 on my toes.. So I'll say that my arms are pretty weak, any way to get them stronger and get more muscle? / since the post was "too short", I'll also share that I've lost 18 kgs, but I am now stuck at one weigh. I am supposed to loose 20 more. But if any of you have other tips for this weigh loss plateau, please share!
