I’ve always been a big dude, but I looked and felt pretty okay. I had abs for a brief moment of my life when I played hockey, but they disappeared as I discovered I love beer, and my metabolism came to a screeching halt just a few years after high school. I’ve gone through health kicks, even getting down to my high school weight at one point, but now is the heaviest I’ve ever been.
I’m 6’ and 270 lbs, something that’s remained constant for the last year. Vegetables were almost non existent during this time unless I was making chili. On Friday I got blackout drunk, but before that I tried Gobhi (I think that’s how it’s spelled) and realized it’s possible to make something as boring as cauliflower be delicious and filling. So I started my health kick.
So now I’ve been making myself several salads a day, and it’s amazing how much better I felt after the first one. I still add a fair amount of Caesar dressing, turkey bacon strips and a boiled egg, but this way I stay full and feel more energy. It’s made me realize I must have had a vitamin deficiency from lack of anything green.
Losing weight and looking good is the end goal, but for now I just want to feel better, to get back in the habit of clean eating. I’ve suffered from debilitating depression for the past 14 months, so in my mind it’s one step at a time. Anyone have any other suggestions?
