I really hate how calorie counting is discouraged in society and perceived as disordered eating

It boggles my mind how anytime calorie counting is mentioned, people say it is unhealthy and you should just “eat in moderation”. Isn’t that what calorie counting is??? I understand that calorie counting CAN be a gateway into disordered eating, but that’s just like saying going to the gym can lead to an exercise addiction.

For the last 1.5 years I have been counting 1200 calories daily and have had to hide it from people because when I tell them, I am met with criticism. The only people who are supportive are my boyfriend and 1 other friend. I wish this was more accepted in society but nowadays people only associate health with “clean eating”, but that only regulars WHAT you eat, not how much you eat.
