Feeling depressed after cutting out junk food?

I've been trying to lose that last 10 pounds or so, and in the last couple of weeks, and especially this last week, I have been restructuring my diet and my exercise schedule, switching to working out in the morning instead of at night, and I am making a much bigger effort to cut sugar and other junk food out of my daily diet. A lot more fruits and vegetables instead of fatty and sugary foods.

Overall, I had been feeling good about the change, for example it seems like I don't experience that afternoon energy crash I used to get, but something strange happened to me Monday evening after dinner. I just felt this deep sadness come over me, in a really intense and relatively sudden way, and all of a sudden I just started bawling my eyes out. I had this strong feeling that nothing mattered. Life felt bleak, empty, pointless. I struggled with depression in college 10 years ago, and it felt a lot like that.

The way that it came on so strongly and seemingly out of nowhere, in response to nothing in particular, it just made me wonder if the change in my diet and exercise routine could have something to do with it. I found a couple of articles that referenced a study showing that quitting junk food can result in withdrawal symptoms that are similar to those experienced when quitting drugs.

So I am just going to stick to the changes and see if these feelings pass, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Just looking for some support, hopefully see I am not alone in feeling this way. Even right now, typing this work, shit just feels bleak and I feel like crying. It's weird.
