A log of a desperate attempt to overcome food addiction by quitting cold turkey for (at least) 100 days.
Some people think it's unrealistic to never eat a bagged potato chip again, and maybe they're right, but not everyone in the world eats Ruffles BBQ chips, right? It's possible to be human and not eat Cheesy Poofs, isn't it? Like, there's definitely some tall and willowy blonde woman in Iceland who has never even heard of chile limon cheetos and her life doesn't automatically suck or become "unsustainable" as a result. Why can't I choose something special, homemade, or exotic for a treat instead of something cheap and scientifically formulated for good "mouthfeel"?
I imagine there's tons of people who don't ever eat this crap, but no one knows because they dont broadcast it the way I'm always tempted to when I'm "giving up" food as part of some new initiative to manage my weight. People who carry around a tonic water at parties or a glass of wine and no one comments that they have not been spotted hunched over the nacho cheese yet. People who, when someone asks if they want anything from 7-Eleven just consistently say, "no thanks!" or "nah, I'm good!" instead of, "oh I wish I could but I'm trying to dodge calorically dense nutritionally bankrupt crap right now, but you go ahead... actually, can I have just a small bag of cheddar popcorn please? And a cherry coke? Thanks!"
Last year I made a gooseberry crisp from fruit I raised myself. It was lovely and I didn't regret it. That's the sort of junk food I want. I want to anticipate cherry picking season because that's when I have home grown cherry pie. I want to look forward to homemade Christmas cookies because it's the only time of year I eat cookies.
Anyway, I made it through a second day mostly without junk food. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't awful. My friend at work handed me a Girl Scout cookie and I ate it without thinking about it. I've been rehearsing what to say when people ask if I want food, not what to do when it is literally put in my hand. A new edge case to prepare for I suppose. Part of me wanted to not count it or just not post today, but I did anyway. I'll definitely put all my tries into making tomorrow solidly successful. But either way, I will be back tomorrow.
Thank you for letting me post here each day and for all of your thoughtful conversations and comments <3
This is what I ate today: Breakfast: oatmeal with 1tsp brown sugar, cinnamon. 1 maple poptart.
Lunch: rice, spicy thai coconut stir fry
Dinner: drunken noodles and 3 steamed dumplings
Snacks: 2 hard boiled eggs, 1/2 apple, 1 tagalong cookie
