Addiction to Potato/Corn Chips (UK: "Crisps")?

I hope this doesn't sound ridiculous, but it's not clear that I have had a lifetime addiction to potato and corn chips, particularly potato chips. I'm truly wondering how to deal with this addiction?

  1. Give them up for good and treat them like a drug or alcohol addiction.
  2. Never buy them, or bring them into my house, but enjoy them at parties, cook-outs, etc?
  3. Enjoy one bag of plain tortilla chips (the type I am least addicted to) once a week, or once a moth?

If I buy a bag (or two) while grocery shopping, I will always consume them the very same day/night. This has added plenty of pounds over the years. In the case of Doritos, the damned things are designed to be addictive! https://www.businessinsider.com/why-doritos-are-addicting-2017-2

Eating a few handfuls of chips at a party doesn't cause me to pick up a bag(s) on the way home, but I do wonder what would happen if I just gave them up? It would be a real bitch for me to do that, but after enough time would my craving for them diminish? Thank you sincerely.
