i made my first post here about 2-3 months ago in a fit of frustration about my weight and my bad eating habits, the tl;dr being that i was angry at myself after gaining a lot of weight during my first year of uni coupled with deep-rooted body image issues which were only becoming more and more pervasive. making that post marked the day i became dead serious in making an effort to eat more healthfully and exercise regularly. for my diet i do CICO and track my calories/macros in lose it! and i do strength training and cardio to a more or less equal ratio (slightly more cardio than strength since i'm genetically predisposed to gain muscle easily).
though it hasn't been long since i started this whole thing i've noticed quite a few changes already - both physical and emotional. my face is slimmer and my shoulders are becoming more angular, making my neck appear longer than it previously did. my thighs don't spread out quite as far when i sit down and there's less fat on my belly that i can pinch. my posture is better, my clothes fit better and i can lift heavier things than i used to be able to. i can feel that i don't take up as much space when i'm around other people, and my body gets in the way of itself much less than it used to. i've also fallen in love with exercise - every time i go for a run, or do bodyweight exercises, i do it in pursuit of the racing heart, the sweat dripping from my brow, the burn i know i'll be feeling in my muscles when i wake up the morning after and the rush of energy and endorphins that seem to linger a tiny bit longer after each workout.
the one thing that doesn't seem to have improved much is my relationship with food. i have a history of disordered eating, though i've never been diagnosed with an eating disorder. it's hard for me to resist temptation, which lead to bad habits such as overeating, obsessive thoughts about food, compulsive/emotional/night eating, you get the idea. tracking my macros and counting calories has proven somewhat useful in making me much more aware of what i'm putting in my body, but i think i may need to seek professional outside help in order to combat this one.
i'm still a really long way from where i want to be. i'm still trying to get the hang of things as well as discovering what does and doesn't work for me. i'm still having self-hate fuelled emotional meltdowns at least once a week about my body, but it's the little things like successfully resisting a craving, watching my body change and running just a little longer/faster every time that are keeping me afloat & motivated to keep on going and aim higher in my journey towards a healthier body.
