I lost 70lbs a few years ago and then I got hit with some heavy stuff (homelessness, losing my mother, husband had cancer). I had a hard time maintaining at that point, I lost momentum, and then re-gained some weight.
For the past year I've been working a heavy physical labor job, and surprisingly it's hard to lose weight here. On particularly heavy days they give calorically-dense food on the way out the door, we have cheap vending machines, there are five fast food joints immediately outside the building, and even if I make it all the way home I eat everything there!
Since it's winter we're working longer hours and I haven't had much time to cook lately. I stopped at the store on the way home and instead of picking up something awful, I bought some cheese, an apple, and some baby carrots (best option? Maybe not but it's the BETTER option).
And it was rewarding! I felt full on ~300cals worth of okay food and mentally I felt so much better than I would have pigging out!
I just started calorie-counting again a few days ago and got a new fitbit. Today I exercised some self-control and I'm confident I've got some good progress ahead of me :D
