Last night I attended an event where my wife provided chair massage. And I've made a lot of excellent progress so far, so I indulged in a short rib quesadilla meal with a beer. That brought me to around 1900 calories for the day which is a bit over goal but still a deficit.
But then on the ride home my wife had a bowl of that caramel corn and chocolate drizzled popcorn mix. I had a fistful. Then another. Then I consciously decided - screw it - I'm going to enjoy this.
I probably had 1000 calories worth of kettle/caramel/chocolate popcorn. And I felt miserable immediately afterwards. I was full - like actually full - for the first time in months, and it was uncomfortable. I also felt more "buzzed" than I ever do from drinking coffee - and I drink a lot of coffee... sip
I generally stick to 60g or fewer carbs per day and have observed the effects of a higher carb day many times. While I technically was only in a calorie surplus of ~500 calories, I "gained" 2.5 lbs from the day before. Of course that's not "real" weight and in a day or two of normal eating it'll be flushed out, but it's amazing how predictable the effect of a significant change in macros can be.
