[https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/420186/] It is focused on women who suffered sexual abuse when a child, but I think (only opinion, I lack the fonts and whatever) that it could be generalized to a lot of traumatic events. As everyone experiences life differently, have different personalities and need diverse coping mechanisms, this could help some people to find the root for the trauma and address it properly. I realized that I was sabotaging myself recently. Lost 4 pounds, someone said something nice, and I was binge eating and asking myself what I was doing. Then I started to notice that I panic when men look at me (don't get me wrong, I don't hate men, I don't think I will be raped any minute, it is something I can't control and it is irrational). A couple of years earlier, i cut all my hair when a guy I knew said I was pretty with long hair. I started gaining weight when a guy I knew tried to get too close to me. He respected me, but I was afraid. Since that day, I can't lose weight without binge eating and gaining more weight. I'm in treatment, because I don't wanna be like this all my life, but I think my insight could help other people. Firstly, to forgive yourself. You were a victim. And now, the extra weight will not really protect your hurt mind, self love will. It took me some years to realize this. (aw English is not my first language, I hope I was clear).
