Things I wish I could’ve learnt before I lost a lot of weight

First time posting here. I just found out about reddit some hours ago and I wanted to share part of my experience.

So I’ve lost a lot of weight counting calories and I want to share with you some thoughts that really gave me the adequate mindset to lose weight.

As all journeys, it all starts rough, a lot of failure and disappointment, but here are two basic rules that have got me constantly loosing weight.

  1. Track my weight once a week. So about this point, I’ve read that, supposedly, people are more accountable for what they eat when they track their weight everyday. Mine was not the case, due to variations of water and therefor, gaining and losing pounds everyday, I got disappointed and lost all my progress by binge eating. Point being, forget about your weight, it’s a number, and focus on your diet.

  2. Count the days with a pen in my ankle streak of days (in roman numbers) which I fully completed my diet. This one was the life-changing one. I was very strict with myself, if I had only one small bite of something out of my plan, I had to fully erase the streak that I already had built. Guess what? After 1-2 weeks doing this, I started not caring about my weight and looks, all I cared about was writing that small ‘I’ in my ankle. Heard what it means when people say consistency is the key? Well, there I found my consistency, I was more worried of losing my streak than of my body or changes in my weight. I had a party and got drinking? Time to erase that number and start all over again. That, in the end of the day, is what happens in our body, a surplus of 3000 kcal is enough to kill one weeks’ progress.

I hope you can find this useful. Good luck in your journey.
