Using Fitbit

My husband is very big on game-ifying things that are hard. He got me a fitbit as a present to help me gameify exercise.

I walk a lot. I live in a small town and don't have a car. My daughter's babysitter is a 15 min walk from my house, the local grocery about 10 mins and a cheaper grocery about 20 mins away. When I go to the city, I take the bus to my furthest destination, then walk through my errands and take the most convenient bus back.

Using Fitbit, I found that many days I don't hit the magical 10,000 steps mark. I like that reality check. I usually average around 7000 steps. When I was my thinnest, I was living in the city and couldn't afford my bus passes to work, so I walked across town to work, which is about 7km each way. I broke a couple pairs of shoes from walking so much, but I couldn't even afford to eat most days.

In short, moving from the city to out-of-town really cut down my exercise. I thought that was interesting.
