A couple of years ago I started noticing a grinding or clicking noise in my left knee whenever I would climb stairs. My left knee is my “bad knee”, or at least the one that I seem to land on whenever I take one of my famous tumbles. I could feel the vibration of the clicking but it didn't hurt, and a quick visit to WebMD (very quick; really don't linger there, guys) left me with the impression that pain-free knee sounds are just part of getting older.
I don't know what my exact weight was at the time that this sound started, but I am pretty sure that I was bigger than my highest recorded weight. So far this year I've lost 50 pounds, and now for the last two weeks or so I've been noticing a distinct absence of the clicking.
This was a minor ailment that seems to have dissolved, but an excellent reminder that pushing down that BMI is good for every part of my life and body. I've still got another 60 or 70 pounds to lose, and I'm excited to find out how good I am capable of feeling.
Counting calories works. Period. There are all kinds of ways to work it, but I will always preach the gospel of fruits and vegetables. And some maintenance days for the sake of sanity. Walking and keeping up with home maintenance are good enough exercise for me.
