Greetings. I've tried losing weight several times since high school and only succeeded once - mostly due to a lifestyle I can't recreate at the moment. It's only in this most recent attempt I've realized that it's 90% emotional/psychological. I have a food addiction and use it to feel comforted as a result of my stress and lack of self esteem.
With that being said I am making great progress this time around due in no small part to the addition of a low daily dose of phentermine by my doctor. I know this is only treating the symptoms, not my problem, but it's doing wonders for my motivation and discipline.
So here's my question. I have no support system. I don't talk to my family aside from birthdays and holidays. I realized my only close friend was an increasing source of negativity and toxcitity in my life so he's out of the picture for now. What are some things you've told yourself to help you through this journey?
Here are a few of mine:
-
This is just temporary. You can have "x" in a few weeks, it's not like you're never going to have it again. X being beer, pizza, skittles, what ever I'm craving at that moment.
-
Your body isn't hungry - the sick part of your brain is and you have to starve it out so it knows these tricks (cravings) don't work.
-
Would you eat steamed fish and broccoli right now? If not, you're not really hungry.
-
Fuck motivation. Motivation is fickle and fleeting and is used as hash tags by shallow Instagram models while they get paid to push supplements and protein powder. Discipline is what gets result and it only comes from repetition.
-
So you slipped up once, big deal. The only thing that makes this worse is if YOU make it worse. Just get back on the wagon for your next meal and don't add insult to injury.
-
(when on the verge of a binge) Is this worth staying on blood pressure medicine for the rest of my life?
Care to share some of yours?
