Hello and welcome to this post.
For those who want to see the pictures first, here are some of me https://imgur.com/a/gFvX9th Disclaimer though, at this point I allready lost 25 Kg, but I don't have pictures from that time, those were the dark ages. Please excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes, not a native english speaker. Now i'm sitting at 92 Kg and 21% bodyfat and my goal is to roughly get down to 80 Kg, or a sixpack, whatever comes first.
A little context about me, before I go into what I did to get here.
I'm 24 Years old, serve in the german army and after 2 major surgeries and a depression I maxed out at 135ish Kg at the End of march of 2017. I was just cleared to go workout again and was disgusted with myself and how unfit I became during my medical leave.
I had some knowledge of CICO and Nutrition from lurking in this sub and wenn full steam ahead. My calories were set to 1750 when I began and I slowly started to get back into a steady fitness regime. In the first months, I tried to get one day more in the gym for each month and only rode my bycicle to therapie and the gym. I eventually settled for roughly 4 times in the gym a week, riding my bike to get everwhere and slowly incorporating Insanity max30 into my days. At that time I was still on medical leave and didn't have to worry about having to go to classes. Then came a 2 month vacation at my grandparents in Croatia, where I doubled down on my fitness, while roughly staying on 1750 kcal a day. I did Insanity, drove 20 km with my bike and then to the beach, where I hang out for the rest of the day.
After 2 months of nothing but working out and realxing on the beach I went back to my normal army college live, with classes and such. After feeling exhausted and not getting enough energy I upped my calories to about 1850 around december, right when I had to right my bachelors thesis. At this point I was down to 96 Kg and feeling good.
Then I had a relapse, the stress of my thesis, coupled with stress at home let to almost no working out and eating like shit. So I went up to 107 Kg again. Which sucked, but I was determined to get back on the horse. At that time ( around May 2018) I also started doing CrossFit, parallel to my own workout regime.
Now with a Calorie Budget of 1850 and working out once or twice a day I managed to get down to 102ish around July. During July and August I went full steam ahead and worked out Monday till Friday twice a day, with saturday only doing Yoga and on sunday only one workout.
Which puts me, where I am today, at 92 Kilos and the aim to go lower, but a little slower. I decided to slow down my workout Volume since I have to get back to College and writing Essays soon and I also got diagnosed with a partial tendon rupture in my left shoulder from Volleyball practice that happend 4 Months ago.
Here's what I've learned so far.
-
Its a battle of willpower and discipline against yourself. For me it came down, to wanting nothing more then having a healthy body. If you want it, you can do it. The hardest part is beginning.
-
Drop the absolutes. During my relapse I justified my bad behaviour with me having cheated once which made my a loser in my head and subsequently lead to further cheating and skipping workouts. One day won't brake or make your weightloss. Just go ahead and pick up where you left off on the next day. Realizing this made it so much easier when I wanted go go out and decided to do maintenance for a day. Just don't let it became a streak. Beeing on a diet for so long can become mentally taxing, so sometimes a day off ist just what you need.
-
Substitue bad habbits with better ones. I casually joke sometimes, that I traded my food addiction with an addiction for working out. I now take better care of my body overall. Whenever I crave something I drink a glass of water or go down for push ups. Skincare and selfcare have become second nature. Use this time to better every aspect of yourselve, not only your body.
-
Don't rush your fitness regime. In the past I made the mistake of going all out from the get go. I now workout once or twice a day, but I gave my body time to get to that level.
I hope my rambling can give somebody something useful for his or her own journey and wish you all an happy and glorious day.
