I used to have a huge Diet Pepsi problem. I don't know what it was but I had never been addicted to sugary sodas, and for some reason when I had a Diet Pepsi with ice I was like, "Oh man, now I get it. This is why people get soda addictions."
Cut to me about a month later ordering about 36 bottles of Diet Pepsi shipped to my house (six six-packs that were buy one get one free, how could I resist?) and then another week later when I was pretty much swimming in a bunch of empty Diet Pepsi bottles that were flooding out of my recycling bin.
A friend of mine recently lost an insanely impressive amount of weight through keto, which really inspired me. She was significantly larger than I was when we first met and now she's very close to being the same size as me. I told her this and I was like, "I think I might be jealous of you? And also amazed that this level of transformation is possible."
She cracked up like, "Good, people being jealous of me is something I'm totally okay with at this point," and proceeded to tell me some of the more basic weight loss life hacks, one of which is how much water is your friend. "Chug water," she said, without smiling or joking. "I seriously have two jugs of water at work. While I'm drinking one, the other one sits in the fridge. When I'm done with the first one, I refill it and grab the other, and I do this for as long as the work day goes. I don't get hunger pangs at work anymore."
Well, that convinced me. The next time I went on a grocery shopping run, instead of grabbing a bunch of bottled soda, I grabbed a bunch of bottled water. When I got home, I put a bunch of it in the freezer so it could be cold quickly (we're in Florida so cold things are your friend), and got in the habit of having water with me all the time instead of soda.
I'm really just starting on my weight loss journey but that was my first major dietary change, and it's been amazing. Being hydrated actually feels way better than having that little sugar rush, and my appetite has minimized substantially. Looking forward to the next step on this journey.
