We Walk This Road Together

“If you see him in the subway, He’ll be down at the end of the car. Watching you move, Until he knows he knows who you are.” Neil Young

“The poster bearer cried, Listen, son, said the man with the gun,  There’s room for you inside”  Roger Waters / Rick Wright

You are not alone there are over eight billion people going through this life with you. We walk this road together or do we?

Walking hand in hand photoCivilization is a group thing. I used to work at an engineering company where the arrogant boss was convinced that he was the reason the business was successful. Perhaps he might have been the most important piece in the puzzle, or maybe not, but he certainly didn’t do all the work. No, collectively as a team we all helped to build what we achieved.

People identify with different things and are multi-faceted. What one defines themselves as tells a lot about the individual. If somebody asked me I would put down ‘Christian’ as the first descriptive word. Many identify with their nation, profession, some society, university, union, religion, family or some other classification.  Each of these categories slices the world from its own unique angle. A building contractor and an environmentalist might look at the same exact thing and see two totally contradicting pictures.

Being mentally ill is something that is so powerful and reality shattering that it can define a person. That is the mental illness looms so large that all other aspects in life dwindle away and lose their meaning. Imagine if you will being in a prison where every minute somebody pokes you in the ribs causing you pain. You can never escape the offense as it occurs over and over. Mental illness is the same way, it sits in your mind like a dark cloud blocking out the light of everything else.

An important thing to recognize is that we all have some worth and have something that we can contribute. I recall a day at the church building when we were preparing new testaments to pass out. There was a large sticker to be placed in the front of the book. Me, with my impatience, couldn’t properly do the task. But there was a young man who suffered from Downs Syndrome. He would peel the sticker and perfectly place them in the front. He took a long time but he also did the job right. He could do something well that I could only do poorly.

What people fail to see is that we are intertwined together. That the Earth is a living organism and we are part of a greater biosphere. Mankind is on a reckless path of destruction devouring nature and sacrificing our most precious resources on the altar of profits. In the mad rush, any who object or dare to speak out against the satanic juggernaut are quickly or slowly crushed. The oceans are polluted, the Amazon is being destroyed, nuclear power continues, mountains are mined, tar sands is a disaster. It is madness that we live in a house and slowly we are destroying the place we inhabit.

I am on your side. In fact, I am on everybody’s side, even the selfish and the rich. By standing up and speaking the truth and trying to educate others as to what is going on is part of the task of writing these humble articles. If you are feeling frustrated, depressed, hopeless, overwhelmed I want you to know that there are legions sharing your pain. It is up to you to seek them out. This goes back to these groups or classifications I mentioned.

Just one word of extreme caution, groups are often used to control and manipulate. By joining an organization, any organization at that matter, you are surrendering part of your whole and accepting a societal view of the collective. This is not necessarily bad, and in fact, it could be quite helpful, but you should be aware of the reality.

It is good to know that somebody’s got your back. That you have friends that are concerned about you and will look out for you. It is a terrible thing to be alone and isolated. Mankind wasn’t designed to live alone, we need each other. Every single one of us is unique and precious and based on our humanity alone we are worthy to be treated with love and respect.

Today is day two of my grand campaign to sell one hundred books in one hundred days. So far no sales but I want to present to you a feel-good book of poetry. It is written with meter and rhyme very different from the stuff produced today. It is called “The Last Cantos Of John Kaniecki” Please show some support and buy a copy. And might I say it is very  affordable.  https://amzn.to/2nmoRjM
